PRODUCT INFORMATION

Our Purahouse®  & Pre-plumbed easy-fit, Whole House Water Filtration System is exclusive to Tapure®, designed and built in the UK with our unique filtration media. Registered Design No. 6220050

Does your tap water smell and taste horrible? Are you concerned about bathing in water that contains chemicals and contaminants? Prolong the life of your pipes and appliances by the prevention of scale formation.  Fitting a home water filter system will solve all these worries and provide you with cleaner, fresher water throughout the home.

  • How it works

The whole house water filter (sometimes called a ‘point of entry system’ or ‘mains water filter’) is fitted to your stop tap where the mains water comes in. This means that all water entering your home is filtered to a higher level than your existing tap water – giving you better-tasting water for drinking, cooking, bathing and laundry.

Bare unit requires Qty 2 Male 1” – 22mm/15mm couplers

  • Protect your pipes and appliances

Our system uses polyphosphates which are compounds that are commonly used in water treatment to address the effects of hard water. When added to hard water, polyphosphates work through a process known as sequestration or chelation. Here’s how it works:

    1. Binding Calcium and Magnesium Ions: Hard water contains high levels of dissolved calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) ions, which are responsible for the formation of limescale and other mineral deposits. Polyphosphates have the ability to bind to these ions.
    2. Formation of Complexes: When polyphosphates come into contact with hard water, they form complexes with calcium and magnesium ions. The polyphosphates wrap around the metal ions, preventing them from precipitating and forming deposits.
    3. Prevention of Scale Formation: By binding to the calcium and magnesium ions, polyphosphates inhibit the formation of limescale and other mineral deposits. This helps to keep pipes, appliances, and fixtures free from scaling, which can reduce their efficiency and lifespan.
    4. Dispersion of Existing Scale: Polyphosphates can also help to break down and disperse existing scale build-up. The complex formation between the polyphosphates and metal ions weakens the bonds within the scale, causing it to break apart and disperse in the water.

After the initial installation of Purahouse high levels of scale may be on surfaces as the polyphosphate breaks down the existing scale formed in your pipes and appliances throughout your home.

Dispersion of Existing Scale: Polyphosphates can also help to break down and disperse existing scale build-up. The complex formation between the polyphosphates and metal ions weakens the bonds within the scale, causing it to break apart and disperse in the water.

In very hard water areas you may need to change filter 3 Combo Nano Pura more frequently.

  • Benefits for skin and hair

Removing chemicals from your home water supply with Purahouse® gives you higher quality drinking water. What you may not have thought about though, are the benefits to your skin and hair of washing in filtered water.

Some of the chemicals found in standard tap water can be incredibly drying for the skin and hair, especially for people with eczema and dermatitis. With a whole house water filter, you’ll have purified bathing water in all of your bathrooms and showers – as well as for washing clothes and dishes.

  • Why pre-plumbed is better

Our compact Purahouse® pre-plumbed whole house water filter will save you time and money. Simply connect from your stop tap to the inlet of Purahouse® & connect the outlet of the Purahouse®  to the supply to your house. Purahouse®  is easy to install with minimal fittings required and if you choose a plumber to install, they will install this with ease.

  • Is this a water softener?

This is not a water softener it does not add salt to the water and does not remove the minerals from the water.

  • Purahouse® vs salt water softener

what are the benefits of using polyphosphate over a salt based water softener

Using polyphosphates as a water treatment method for addressing hard water has several benefits compared to salt-based water softeners. Here are some advantages of using polyphosphates:

    1. No Sodium Addition: Unlike salt-based water softeners, polyphosphate systems do not add sodium to the water. This is beneficial for individuals on low-sodium diets or those concerned about sodium intake. Polyphosphates offer a salt-free alternative for water treatment.
    2. Retention of Minerals: Polyphosphates do not remove beneficial minerals like calcium and magnesium from the water. While salt-based water softeners replace calcium and magnesium ions with sodium ions, polyphosphates only bind to the hardness minerals, allowing them to remain in the water.
    3. Low Maintenance: Polyphosphate systems generally require less maintenance compared to salt-based water softeners. Salt-based systems involve the periodic addition of salt and the need to regenerate the resin bed. In contrast, polyphosphate systems typically involve adding the polyphosphate compound periodically, with no need for regeneration or backwashing.
    4. Cost-Effective: Polyphosphate systems are often more cost-effective in terms of upfront costs and ongoing expenses. Salt-based water softeners can require significant initial investments, as well as ongoing expenses for salt refills and maintenance. Polyphosphate systems tend to have lower upfront costs and require less ongoing expenditure.
    5. Environmental Considerations: Salt-based water softeners discharge brine, which contains high levels of sodium, into the wastewater stream. This can be problematic for the environment, especially in areas where water scarcity and salinity are concerns. Polyphosphates do not contribute to sodium or chloride pollution, making them a more environmentally friendly option.
    6. Versatility: Polyphosphate systems can be easily installed or retrofitted into existing plumbing systems. They are compatible with a wide range of plumbing materials, including copper, PVC, and PEX. This versatility makes them suitable for various residential and commercial applications.

While polyphosphate systems offer these benefits, it’s important to note that they have limitations. Polyphosphates provide temporary water conditioning and scale prevention. They do not remove hardness minerals, and the effectiveness of polyphosphates may vary depending on water conditions. For severe hard water problems, a salt-based water softener may still be a more effective solution.

Purahouse®
filters

Filter elements are Certified to NSF/ANSI 42/43/58 Standards

Filter 1 – Pleated PURA

Filtration Removal – reduces sediment, dirt, scale and rust particles down to 5 microns and gives excellent resistance to chemicals and bacteria.

Service life is around 200,000 liters, depending on water quality. 2 years depending on water quality and usage.

5 MICRON, 55 pleated washable filter, maximizes its lifespan with pleated technology creating more surface area to absorb and trap impurities down to 5 microns. This filter extends the life of subsequent more expensive filters.

The polypropylene is melt-blown, drawn and received, so that the polypropylene fibres are entangled by self-adhesive to form PP cotton filters of different shapes and sizes. Because the chemical composition of PP is clean and meets the hygienic standards of food, it will not cause secondary pollution to the water to be filtered due to the material, and it is safer to use.

PP cotton has a combination of surface, deep layer and coarse fine filtration. Due to these multiple advantages of PP cotton, it has the characteristics of large flow rate, high precision, corrosion resistance, high pressure resistance.

Filter 2 – Activated Kinetic PURA

Filtration removal – chlorine, hydrogen sulphide, magnesium, chloramine, pesticides, herbicides, nitrate, phosphate, lithium, pharmaceuticals, micro-plastics, arsenic, asbestos, PFAS, Fluoride reduction, heavy metals (lead, zinc, copper, mercury, iron, chromium, etc.) and microorganisms (bacteria, algae, fungi, etc.) Scale reduction – calcium carbonate, sediment reduction. Taste and odour reduction.

Service life is 60,000 Litres, before effectiveness of the filter is reduced. 1 year depending on water quality and usage.

Granular Activated Coconut Shell Carbon (GAC): water flows through a bed of activated carbon granules which trap particulate matter and remove chlorine, organic contaminants, chemicals, and undesirable tastes and odours, through a process called “physical adsorption”.

Our GAC media is a high activity granular activated carbon manufactured by steam activation from select coconut shell charcoal. Its enhanced microporosity makes it particularly well suited for the removal of low molecular weight organic compounds and their chlorinated by-products such as chloroform and other trihalomethanes (THM’s).

It is also ideally suited to the removal of oxidizing agents such as chlorine and ozone from process water. An important feature of this material is its superior mechanical hardness and the extensive dedusting during its manufacture that ensures an exceptionally clean activated carbon product.

KDF is short for kinetic degradation fluxion. This type of media consists of granules made from high-purity copper-zinc, which are designed to produce a redox reaction – either reduction or oxidation – to greatly reduce common water impurities. In the KDF redox process, which is certified by NSF international, impurities are changed into harmless substances that can be effectively removed by backwashing. Electrons are transferred between molecules and new elements are created as a result.

KDF process media are high-purity, copper-zinc formulations that reduce contaminants in water using an oxidation/reduction (redox) reaction. In other words, KDF media exchange electrons with contaminants, changing them into harmless components. For example, chlorine is changed into soluble chloride, soluble ferrous cations are changed into insoluble ferric hydroxide, and hydrogen sulphide is changed into insoluble copper sulphide.  Other heavy metals such as mercury, copper, and nickel are removed simply by bonding to the KDF media.

Microorganisms, however, are controlled two ways: first, the exchange of electrons in the redox reaction creates an electrolytic field that most microorganisms can’t survive. Second, KDF process media may catalyse the formation of radicals and peroxides in certain circumstances. The radicals can interfere with microorganisms’ ability to function.

KDF-55 granules are designed to electrochemically reduce and remove soluble heavy metals and chlorine in the water. Heavy metals in water can be changed into harmless substances by KDF-55.

Our 300 grams of KDF 55 water filtration process – free chlorine is converted into chloride ions, harmless components that are water-soluble. Two negatively charged electrons are required to convert free chlorine into chloride.

Our 300 grams of KDF-85 granules are effective at filtering out iron and hydrogen sulphide. Bacteria can also be effectively removed, preventing a build-up of harmful microorganisms. KDF-85 also controls hardness scale.

Heavy metals such as copper, nickel, chromium, lead and mercury, are removed by simply bonding to the KDF media. This water treatment removes up to 98% of these contaminants.

Filter 3 – Combo Nano PURA

Advanced Combination 4-in-1 composite filter – PP Cotton – Fibre carbon – Nano silver carbon – Anti-scale filter

Filtration Removal – chlorine, chloramine, pesticides, herbicides, nitrate, phosphate, lithium, pharmaceuticals, micro-plastics, arsenic, asbestos, PFAS, Flouride reduction, lead, zinc, copper, mercury and other heavy metals. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) Taste and odour reduction.

Service life is 130,000 liters, before effectiveness of the filter is reduced. 2 years depending on water quality and usage.

Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs) are compounds that evaporate easily from water into air at normal air temperatures. VOCs are contained in a wide variety of products including fuels, solvents, cleaners, degreasers, paints, inks, dyes and pesticides. People are most commonly exposed to VOCs through the air, in food, through skin contact and in drinking water.

PP cotton has a combination of surface, deep layer and coarse fine filtration. Due to these multiple advantages of PP cotton, it has the characteristics of large flow, high precision, corrosion resistance, high pressure resistance, the carbon block filter is also wrapped in a microporous cloth which further reduces sediment.

Carbon cartridges made with carbon fibre block technology are far more advanced than traditional carbon block cartridges, offering up to double the amount of filtration capacity than standard carbon blocks. Benefits of higher flow rates, lower pressure drops, higher treatment capacity and less susceptibility to premature blocking from sediment make them the leading carbon cartridges on the market.

The fibres (coated in powdered activated carbon) have a very large surface area to offer increased capacity, more flow paths to allow for increased flow and reduced pressure drop and also create areas where sediment and microplastic particles can be trapped. Lead and other heavy metals removal can be targeted.

Nano Silver impregnated Carbon; Trapping nano size particles, bacteria, cryptosporidium and giardia cysts removed. Carbon fiber block technology also enables the use of moulded gaskets, meaning no glues are used and the risk of end-caps being left in the housing during cartridge change is vastly reduced.

Anti-Scale media polyphosphate mineral (siliphos), is added to the carbon block which prevents the limescale forming and prevents corrosion. This process will protect surfaces from corrosion because it blocks molecules containing oxygen, which leads to oxidation, which leads to rust and corrosion.

Purahouse® FAQs

  • What is the difference between Purahouse® and the Tapure Water Purifier?

Purahouse filters water throughout your entire home – every tap, shower, bath and appliance. It is a whole house water filtration system and is fitted at your mains entry point. Purahouse removes up to 97% of contaminants down to the size of 5 microns.
The Tapure Water Purifier filters only the tap and/or drink station that it is connected to. It is a point of use water filtration system and is fitted in your under sink cupboard to a specific outlet. Our water purifier removes up to 99.99% of contaminants down to 0.0001 microns.
The Tapure Water Purifier provides a much higher level of filtration and also re-mineralizes water, making great-tasting alkaline, antioxidant drinking water.

  • Can I get both Purahouse® and the Tapure Water Purifier?

Absolutely! That is our recommendation and that is what we have in our homes.
Our view is that Purahouse® (the whole house water filter) provides cleaner filtered water with additional benefits that you really don’t want to miss out on, especially for the skin.
However, if you want the absolute best quality water for drinking and washing food with, then installing the Tapure Water Purifier (the under-sink water filter) too is the way to go.

  • Can I install Purahouse® myself or do I need a plumber?

We recommend professional installation with the Purahouse®
However, if you are competent at DIY or are in the trade yourself, then we do supply a full installation manual and we are here to assist if required.

  • Are the filters recyclable?

Only the plastic parts are recyclable, we have developed long life filters to reduce plastic waste.

  • Is this a water softener ?

No this does not remove the minerals from the water.

Polyphosphates are compounds that are commonly used in water treatment to address the effects of hard water.

Polyphosphates are commonly used in water softeners, scale inhibitors, and other water treatment systems. They offer a cost-effective and efficient way to mitigate the effects of hard water, preventing scaling and improving the overall performance of water-using appliances and plumbing systems.

  • Why is there scale on surfaces after installation?

After the initial installation of Purahouse high levels of scale may be on surfaces as the polyphosphate breaks down the existing scale formed in your pipes and appliances throughout your home.

Dispersion of Existing Scale: Polyphosphates can also help to break down and disperse existing scale build-up. The complex formation between the polyphosphates and metal ions weakens the bonds within the scale, causing it to break apart and disperse in the water.

In very hard water areas you may need to change filter 3 more frequently.
